Counter Opinion: You will eventually need to officially register your copyright

So, it’s been an interesting experience trying to publish my Rogue of Taurus novel with Amazon this month. The last time I published something under Kindle Direct Publishing was in 2017. The publishing process has changed since then. Namely, if you want to post your book anywhere else besides amazon–Wattpad, Royal Road, your own author website, serial fiction forums on Reddit–you need to register your copyright.  Apparently, stolen stories have become such a problem on Amazon that they force you to legally prove that you own the copyright to a work before publishing it. So, how do you legally prove …

My review of my 2021 reading and writing Goals

Goal: A poem a day I did really good on this goal for a long time. I read a poem a day (even if some weeks I had to play catch up) until July. I think once the kids got out of school for the summer my habit schedule crumbled and I never picked up back up in the same way as I did in the first half of the year. I read 2 poetry collections and the poems of Catullus, Sulpicia, and Propertius in English Translation.   Goal: I made a goal to try a new age category this year. …

How did Nanowrimo go? Not well…

Man, guys I totally bombed Nanowrimo. At the first of the month, I had a strained muscle. When that started to resolve I went and got a hernia so I spent a lot of time just managing pain. Thank goodness for Ibuprofen or I’d be completely non-functional. Then after Thanksgiving, I got a cold. I do not recommend having a cold while you have a Hernia. Not fun at all.  Things I accomplished writing-wise this month were writing 8k words on various projects. I only wrote 600 words on my actual nano project. Blah.  The kids will both be fully …

Nanowrimo Day 1

So, I am trying to write maybe three novelettes roughly 17 thousand words each for nanowrimo this year. I’m thinking I’ll actually only get two done. I am going to write sweet contemporary western romances in a world that I created several years ago. I really did intend to write more novelettes but my life kept my plate too full and I couldn’t follow through on my plans.  So, I am not starting from scratch per se but I’m not pulling back out my olds stories. I’m starting fresh. October literally left me no time to plan anything! So, this …

How I am doing New Years Resolutions in 2021

So, in case you haven’t heard…2020 sucked. Everyone is a little worn out and tired. So, goals aren’t really popular right now. But I think keeping track of small controllable accomplishments helped my mental health in 2020. So, I’d like to continue that trend. So this year I picked out several things I was interested in accomplishing and then put in the caveat that I checked in at the end of each month to see if the goal was still 1) doable and 2) still positive for my mental health. First Goal: Read a poem everyday In January I read …

2020 Media Consumption Summary

Movies: Uh, I don’t think I watched any movies. I might have rewatched LILO AND STITCH with my daughter if that was this year? Gave up half-way through ONWARD.  TV:  Watched two anime series this year. I am in love with the ASCENSION OF A BOOKWORM Can’t wait for 3rd season. Also, highly rec HAIKYU. So good! Enjoyed watching FORGED IN FIRE. Sort of watched MANDALORIAN. Enough to know the highlights but watching a child (baby yoda) endure all that traumatic violence made me feel physically ill. So, yeah, didn’t actually watch it. I watched my family watch it.  Books: …

Writing Journal November 16-21

Monday November 16 Definitely in a better headspace today. No crying! Getting back to our weekly schedule helped. I also saw friends in social distanced outdoor meetups. We are lucky the weather has stayed so good for so long. I have to admit seeing 60 degrees projected for this weekend helped my mood immensely. Today I didn’t edit in order. I did line edits on the last scene of the last chapter. Then my stretch goal for the day was to ask another writer I’m acquainted with but had never read my work to read the book. They offered to …

Writing Journal November 9-14

Monday November 9 Not much progress this morning. Still on fleshing out and clarifying description duty as I work through the chapter. I did get some important errands accomplished today. Both kids have much needed new shoes that actually fit. I ordered a gobbler sandwich online, picked it up and then drove to a nearby park to eat lunch with a friend. I shall consider it my finishing my book celebration.  Tuesday November 10 Between an editing session last night after the kids went to bed  and another session this morning when they were on zoom I finished line edits …

Writing Journal Nov 2-Nov 7

Monday, November 2 I don’t write on Sundays but we voted yesterday! I am so glad I don’t have to worry about that anymore. What a relief! Now we just have to sit back and see what happens this week. I am super excited to write today. I went to bed early last night so the morning would come earlier so I could write.  Today I need to rewrite chapter 27. The whole thing needs to be trashed so we are starting from scratch. In my head, I’m shooting for min 2500 words. Maximum  4000. 3 scenes. I can write …

MORMON LIT BLITZ ANTHOLOGY

I have some exciting news about my flash fiction this week. The Mormon Lit Blitz founders have compiled an anthology of contests winners for the first five years of the contest. That means three of my stories will be included in the collection. This is such a great opportunity for many authors that have participated in the contest throughout the years. It is also an awesome collection of Mormon flash fiction and poetry from so many talented and experienced writers in the field. It it a great collection to have on hand for a quick bit of entertainment and inspiration. …
